Thermal Compound Discipline (Prevent Thermal Runaway): Power diodes generate intense heat and depend on aluminum heat sinks for thermal dissipation. Before mounting a new 4531-308 diode, completely remove old dried silicone grease from the heat sink and apply a fresh, thin, uniform layer of thermal compound! Operating without grease causes thermal runaway and catastrophic diode explosion within 10 minutes of welding.
Critical Rule: Check Pin Polarity! Diodes conduct current in one direction only. Always mark positive and negative leads before removing old modules.
