Original OTC DAIHEN AW-18 Water-Cooled TIG Welding Torch (Standard Threaded Edition)
OTC DAIHEN AW-18 is a classic Japanese-imported heavy-duty water-cooled TIG welding torch. Unlike the AWD series equipped with quick-connect interfaces, the AW-18 adopts a classic universal threaded connection design, delivering exceptional equipment compatibility. It not only perfectly matches classic high-power inverter TIG welders such as the OTC DAIHEN MR315T, AEP300, VRTP400, and ADP400t, but can also be widely applied to other industrial brands’ water-cooled TIG welding systems provided interface matching is verified. With its robust 400A (60% duty cycle) capability, it serves as the primary workhorse for heavy stainless steel and aluminum alloy continuous fabrication in workshop environments.
✨ Core Advantages & Technical Features
- Classic High-Compatibility Interface: Utilizes rugged and durable standard threaded gas-electric/water-electric connections with outstanding sealing performance. Its wide adaptability makes it the golden partner for traditional high-power water-cooled TIG welding machines.
- High-Efficiency Re-circulating Cooling System: Precision water circulation loops are integrated into the torch body and cable harness. Operating with a circulating water cooler, it efficiently removes the intense thermal energy generated by 400A currents, ensuring operators can hold the torch comfortably during long welding shifts.
- Flexible Cable Harness with High Mechanical Strength: Despite encapsulating water hoses, gas conduits, and large-cross-section braided copper conductors, the AW-18 still incorporates OTC DAIHEN’s proprietary high-flexibility heat-resistant composite sheath. Dragging is effortless, greatly relieving wrist fatigue during manual welding.
- Optimized Laminar Gas Shielding: The internal cavity of the torch head undergoes fluid dynamic optimization, reducing tungsten electrode burn-off rates while providing a uniform, pure argon laminar shielding layer to eliminate weld pool oxidation and porosity during heavy plate deep-penetration welding.
🏭 Typical Heavy Industrial Welding Applications
With its high load capacity and universal compatibility, the AW-18 water-cooled torch is widely deployed across high-end manufacturing and heavy industrial sectors:
- Heavy Pressure Vessel Manufacturing: Ensures defect-free root pass and multi-layer, multi-pass continuous TIG welding on thick stainless steel plates in chemical and pharmaceutical equipment fabrication.
- Aluminum Rail Transit & Shipbuilding: Combined with AC TIG welding machines such as the AEP300, it demonstrates exceptional performance in clearing oxide films and achieving deep penetration on thick aluminum alloy plates.
- Pipe Prefabrication & Tube-to-Tube Assembly: Flexible combination of 4m and 8m length specifications accommodates fixed workshop stations as well as localized on-site pipe alignment operations.

🛠️ AW-18 Water-Cooled Torch Operational & Maintenance Guidelines
- Activate Coolant First, Never Dry Run: Heavy-current water-cooled torch cables rely entirely on cooling water to carry away Joule heating. Never strike an arc without activating the water cooler or when water pressure is insufficient! Any energized operation without water circulation will melt and sever internal main power cables within seconds.
- Prevent Torsional Twist When Threading: When connecting the torch to the machine host or cooling tank threaded couplings, always use two open-end wrenches to tighten in opposition. Never apply forceful single-handed twisting, which can tear or sever internal copper conductors and water tubes at the root of the cable harness.
- Periodically Check for Leaks & Scale: Inspect torch head rubber seals and tail water fittings quarterly for aging or leakage. We recommend dedicated welder coolant to prevent freezing and scaling. Using tap water causes mineral scale to block narrow water channels inside the torch head, resulting in pseudo-overheating (“torch runs hot despite water flow”).
